Silver and lead smelter Friedrichshütte in Strzybnica ….

The end of the 18th century was a breakthrough period for Tarnowskie Mountains in the history of the city. The discovery and resumption of the extraction of rich silver and lead ores contributed to the industrial development of the city, where in 1786 in Strzybnica / today the Tarnowskie Góry district / began operating on the initiative of the distinguished industry in Upper Silesia Frederick Wilhelm Wilhelm von Reden Royal Huta Fryderick or Königliche “Friedrichshütte”.

Huta named after the King of Prussia – Frederick the Great, and the ore from the Royal Fryderyk mine in Bobrowniki Śląskie was melted in it. In 1922 – 1933 “Friedrichshütte” acted as the Polish Tax Huta of lead and silver, but the exhaustion of local deposits, the reduced amount of melted ore, falling prices and demand for lead caused by the economic crisis in the world and the increase in production costs caused that the decision was made to liquidate the plant. The liquidation process began in 1933 and ended before the outbreak of World War II, in 1937.

After World War II, in 1946, the “Strzybnica” Metal Plant began operating in the former steelworks, which in 1961 adopted the name “Zamet”, and after 1976 Zakłady Mechaniczne “Zamet” in Tarnowskie Góry, in which machines and constructions were produced, as well as devices for the metallurgy and processing of non -ferrous metals.

Today, the Akcyjna Machine Machine Stock Company in Tarnowskie Góry is the largest domestic supplier of machines and equipment for metallurgy, processing of iron and non-ferrous metals for the mining, energy, shipbuilding and food industries. It is worth adding that in 2004 the company was included in the company in Bytom, which was established on the basis of the former “Zygmunt” Huta in Bystomi-Łygiewniki.
