She fed coal under five cities. History K …

The “Saturn” hard coal mine in Czeladz was founded in 1887 on the initiative of the tycoon in the production of the zinc of Prince Hugon Zu Hohenlohe-Ohringen, who received a concession for coal extraction from the mining fields “Saturn”, “Herkules”, “Jupiter” and “Angelius”. In 1900, the mine became the property of Alfred Biedermann and Karol von Scheibler in Łódź, who appointed a joint-stock company of the mining and industrial Society “Saturn”. The constantly developing mine not only changed the landscape of Czeladz, but also contributed to the creation at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century of the Workers’ Colony, i.e. residential buildings for miners working in the mine, as well as technical supervision employees and officials.

During World War II, the mine became the property of the Preussag group, and from 1945 it was included in the Dąbrowski Unification of the Coal Industry. In 1950, KWK “Saturn” was renamed KWK “Czerwona Gwardia”, and the former name was returned only after changing the system in Poland in 1990. During the Polish People’s Republic, KWK “Milowice-Czeladź” was incorporated into the mine in 1976, creating a three-move mine.

After more than a hundred years of federy, former objects still serve residents

At the turn of the eighties and nineties of the twentieth century, i.e. during the economic transformation, the liquidation process of KWK “Saturn” began. The mine was placed in a state of liquidation on January 1, 1993, and this process was completed on December 31, 1996. In 2003, the ownership of objects after the former mine was taken over by the city of Czeladź, thanks to which not only the Saturn Museum operates in the mined buildings located in the pre -war neoclassical villa, formerly the apartment of the director of KWK “Saturn”, but in the former mine power plant the “Power Plant” gallery operates, in which exhibitions and concerts take place from 2010 It was included in the MONUND MONDSUE trail of the Śląskie Voivodeship.

An interesting fact is that KWK “Saturn” conducted hard coal under five cities: Czeladzia, Będzin, Siemianowice Śląski, Sosnowiec and Katowice.
